Michelle Ryan, who walked down the red carpet in a striking red dress at the recent BAFTA TV Awards-2009, is all set to appear in one off drama One Night In Emergency for BBC Scotland with Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd. This drama is based on the story of a husband’s surreal hunt for his wife in the inner city hospital. Written by Gregory Burke, author of Black Watch, the movie would commence shooting in and around Glasgow. The cast includes Ewen Bremner, Gary Lewis, Sanjeev Kohli and David Hayman and the movie will be directed by Michael Offer who is renowned for his ventures like The Passion and The State Within.
This amazingly talented and extremely gorgeous actress portrayed ‘Jaime Sommers’ in our favorite series Bionic Woman that premiered in 2007, and was based on the original series of the same name of 1970’s.
Though the series ended rather abruptly after airing just a few episodes, we cannot forget the lovely actress who was the protagonist of the show. Ryan was extremely enthusiastic about doing this show and worked very hard for it. So much so, that in an episode named ‘The Education of Jaime Sommers’ (episode 5) she used the Oxford shire accent instead of her natural London accent so that she could do justice to her character. If that was not enough, she took professional dance training to help her in doing the physically demanding stunts, which were required for the show. You can judge her dedication and professionalism from the fact that she also took training in Krav Maga, a martial art form and sign language to play her part well. No wonder she was disappointed at the cancellation of the show.
As hindsight, she commented that the show was cancelled because it kept changing direction. This came as a huge set back to her and consequently she grew less ambitious about her career. She was once quoted saying, “I’m more go-with-the-flow now”.
Recently, she appeared as “Lady Christina de Souza” in one episode of ‘Doctor who’, on 11 April 2009. She is expected to appear again on this series. She has said about this, “At the moment, when it comes to acting, I’m a bit of a commitment-phobe”. Well! We will surely love to see her in more television shows.
